All Paper Plane Academy pilots can hang up their googles with pride tonight. After two big days at the State of Design Festival link, more than 600 paper plane cadets folded, fastened and flew some of the best designs we have seen yet. They tested their mettle and delivered … and had a whole lot of fun at the same time!

Take a look at some of the action and fun from this year’s event below. We’ll have more photo’s coming up in the next few days.

Thank you to all our co-pilots for their excellent service these past few days and a special mention to C0-Pilot Nathan who commanded the show and Cadet Ken – his first year with us, but what a standout!

A great pic of The Paper Plane Academy in full flight took out the front page of the State of Design Lift Out in today’s Sunday Herald Sun. And we couldn’t be happier!

The look on the kids’ faces is what we are all about – the fun and creativity of design for everyone – and we’d love you to join us this weekend to make our third year in the festival the best yet.

Please let us know you’re coming – We’ve had hundreds of bookings for the upcoming festival and they keep coming in. “The more the merrier” we say and we are already calling in more co-pilots to help our budding cadets. Can’t wait to see loads of kids, parents, families and friends getting together and having some design fun!

Design To Go – Wangarratta

Yet another early start but what a beautiful sunrise. The team was off to see the kids at the Yarrunga Primary School in Wangarratta for another session of the Paper Plane Academy.

Set up and ready to go for 9am the kids were fantastic and over the next 2 hours over 90 cadets took to the skies. Lots of planes were made with some amazing designs. We had a great time bringing the Academy to Yarrunga and were sad to go.

State of Design Festival Guide Launch

The Paper Plane Academy was happy to help out in creating a festive occasion for the launch of the 2011 State Of Design Festival Guide. This years guide is in a newspaper format and is great to carry around and to hand over to friends. It is now the third year that the Academy has been involved with the Festival and its great to see the event just get bigger and bigger. Joneschijoff, the creative team behind the Paper Plane Academy never imagined that it would be getting the attention it has.

Design To Go – Ballarat

The second event on the Design To Go program has been run on the 20th June at Ballarat. The host was Eurquhart Park Primary School. 90 kids in total participated in the program and by all accounts had a great time. Much thanks goes out to the principle and teachers on hand. We look forward to many more events in Ballarat and other regional centres around Victoria and Australia.

Design To Go – Moe

Yesterday we woke to a glorious day which marked the start of our adventure to take the Paper Plane Academy to Moe. The location, Moe South St Public School, the budding pilots – 90 students and teachers. For the next 2 hours many planes were flown, lots of laughs were had. Overall it was a glorious distraction to the average day and left Major Mike with a great big smile. A big thanks goes out to Laurie, the principle, who was the best host and to the students who were just fantastic. We’ll be updating with photo’s when we have them available.

Next week another destination – this time Ballarat!

Academy flies at the State Of Design Festival 2011

We are happy to announce that the Paper Plane Academy will be running at the upcoming State Of Design Festival in July 2011. This year the event will be held over 2 days on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th from 10am to 4pm. So come along and spend as much or as little you want. Its all about what works for you, your family and friends.

Bookings are available via our events page. Please ensure that you bring along your printed ticket to get into the Royal Exhibition Building for free.
